Another senior session where I broke out the film camera. There was some great light here. Portra 400, shot on Canon Elan 7 with 50mm f/1.4 L.  Actual aperture was probably f/2.8, that's where I usually settle into on that lens.

During a recent senior photo shoot, I broke out the film camera and did a few frames. Yes, I managed to cut off both hands at the wrists. Not happy with that, but I am happy with the look of Portra 400.  Indie Lab does a pretty good job processing and scanning for a decent price, although I do need to make a few corrections in post, mostly for contrast. One thing about film, the most you need to crop in, the bigger your grain is going to be.

My first roll of Kodak Portra 400 film. I overexposed by about a third of a stop and shot @ ISO 320.  The resulting scan was a little more exposed than I would have liked, so I needed to drop it in post by about 3/4 of a stop.  It may be that I had exposed for the very darkest part of this (backlit) photo, but I am happy with the results.  I'll need to figure out exactly what I did wrong and then move on for next time.

Ilford hp5+, processed and scanned by the brand new Ilford lab in California. If and when I get this film again, I'll likely shoot at 320 to help bring up the shadows just a bit. I hadn't got a roll done in awhile...it's nice to be posting again here.

Ship in the Gap

A lone sailing ship making its way down the Columbia River through the Wallula Gap in SE Washington. Ilford fp4+ pushed to 250, Canon EF 70-200 f/4 L (non-IS).
